Piotr "Peter" Mokrosiński (born May 2, 1953 in Łódź , Poland ) is a Polish cameraman , film director and screenwriter .

Life

Although Peter Mokrosiński was born in Łódź , he grew up in Askim , near Oslo , where his grandfather's family already owned a bus station and a sawmill . In the mid-1950s, Mokrosiński's father bought a grocery store . After the business went bankrupt in the mid-1970s due to competition from larger supermarkets, the family moved to Sarpsborg , where the father took a job at the Borgarsyssel Museum . During his school days, Mokrosiński was involved in left-wing extremist groups as well as engaged in the production of dramas. Therefore, he tried his hand at Gol's County College as a dramaturge from 1979 , before he emigrated to Australia for half a year in order to force the career to the cameraman. From there he went to New York City from 1982 , where he studied at the International Center of Photography . He could afford this from the savings he had accumulated during his two years as a postman in Oslo.

After learning his trade under filmmakers like Robert Frank , Jack Sal and Eileen Berger, Mokrosiński released his first film Luciana's morning in 1983 . With the inheritance of his late father, he made the short film Noras hemmlighet a year later and went back to Norway, where he studied drama . He then wanted to study film studies at New York University , but since his application documents from Norway arrived too late, he had to reorient himself and was accepted for the directing course at the Drama Institute in Stockholm , where he worked from January 1986 under lecturers such as Ingmar Bergman , Bo Widerberg and Mai Zetterling studied. His graduation film Huset already won the main prize at the International Festival of Film Schools in Munich. Almost at the same time he was the first ever to receive the Guldbagge for best camera for his work in Friends .

Although he grew up in Norway and was connected to New York through his student days, Mokrosiński stayed with Swedish film mainly as a cameraman and was able to win four more nominations for the Guldbagge and for films such as Kommissar Beck: The Man on the Balcony , Straydogs , Leva livet and Damnation Evil received its second award for best camera.
