A nice mess (Original title: En underbar jävla jul ) is a Swedish comedy film from 2015 . It was directed by Helena Bergström , who also wrote the script together with Edward af Sillén and Daniel Réhn. The leading roles include Maria Lundqvist , Robert Gustafsson and Anastasios Soulis .

Simon and Oscar, both 27 years old, have been a couple for three years. Together with their close friend Cissi, they want to have a child. Since the parents of the two men do not yet know about it, they should find out on Christmas Eve that they will soon be grandparents.

A nice present was produced by Petra Jönsson for Sweetwater Production AB, with the support of the Swedish Film Institute . The film initially had the working title God jul! and later Härlig är jorden before it got its final original title En underbar jävla jul .
The film was released in Swedish cinemas on November 13, 2015. In 2015, 600,933 people saw the film in Sweden. The film was thus the most visited film that year. A nice present came to German cinemas on December 22nd, 2016.
criticism
In Sweden
Anna Hellsten wrote in Svenska Dagbladet that the dialogue in A beautiful Christmas presents was written “with perfect hearing for all exhausting conversations about compromising Christmas parties”. In addition, Robert Gustafsson is "better than ever" in his role as a "homophobe".
Karin Svensson from Östersunds-Posten gave the film a 4 out of 5 and wrote: “ A nice mess is a drama comedy, and there is certainly a lot of tedious stumbling and funny embarrassment. The humor is also delivered in the form of sharp one-liners (mainly from the formidable Inga Landgré as an outspoken grandmother) and from Rikard Wolff in a wonderful drive with cozy, fascist Christmas worlds on television. But it's also the brutal mix of humor and heartbreaking seriousness that makes you really feel the movie, feel it all over your body. That is worth more than a happy Christmas mood. "
Helena Lindblad wrote in Dagens Nyheter : “On the fourth directing attempt, Helena Bergström finally succeeds in making a closely narrated comedy with a modern address, blackness and humor in the right doses, including a concentrated bite in the lines of text. A pretty wonderful damn Christmas movie. "
Jonna Vanhatalo from Moviezine.se gave a nice present 4 out of 5 points and described it as the best and coziest Swedish Christmas film since Kjell Sundvalls Tomten är far till alla barnen (1999). The film is "well played, incredibly funny but also thoughtful and also enormously warming in the coming winter cold".
In Germany
Alexandra Seitz from epd Film gave a beautiful gift 2 out of 5 stars and said that the film was “a bit overstaffed”, but praised the performance of the actors who “do not differ from the criss-crossing interests and feelings of the characters to bring calm and instead [...] instead, casually and lovingly [work] on the memorable traits of their respective characters ”. The actors ensure "in the midst of all the chaos for the urgently needed grip and for moments of tragicomic recognition", says Seitz.
Christian Berndt from Deutschlandfunk Kultur wrote: "[A] ls society satire, well-intentioned, but reality-blind comedy is not good."
Björn Schneider from Programmkino.de said: “The entertaining Swedish comedy“ A beautiful gift ”convinces with a chaotic clash of opposites and many successful jokes that follow. Unfortunately, some twists turn out to be too hard and the film in places too lengthy. "
