Mankell's Wallander is a crime series that was created in a Swedish-German co-production and mainly played in Ystad (southern Sweden). It ran from 2005 to 2014 and is based on the character of Kurt Wallander by Henning Mankell . A Wallander novel by Mankell served as a template for the first episode of the first season. For most of the other episodes, Mankell either wrote the script himself or worked on it.
background
In the 32-part international co-production, after Rolf Lassgård - known from earlier Kommissar Wallander films - the Swedish actor Krister Henriksson took on the lead role of the commissioner.
The beginning was the film adaptation of Before the Frost , directed by Kjell-Åke Andersson, based on a script by Stefan Ahnhem and Pelle Berglund . The first season with 13 films was shown from June 2006 to April 2007 at irregular intervals on German television.
In 2008 and 2009, the second season was created with another 13 episodes of Mankells Wallander with Krister Henriksson as Kurt Wallander . Stefan Lindman (actor: Ola Rapace ) is no longer there because he commits suicide in the last episode Dark Secrets of the first season. Wallander's daughter Linda , played by Johanna Sällström , is also no longer seen after her actress committed suicide in early 2007. Instead of Linda, the young police officers Isabelle and Pontus join the team for a season .
The third season consists of 6 episodes and is the last season with the participation of Krister Henriksson. Linda now appears again, played by another actress. In the last two episodes Kurt Wallander ill at the Alzheimer's disease , but keeps them from colleagues secret. He himself can overcome the disease through improvisation, e.g. B. hide the taking of notes and his daughter Linda, who is initiated by him as the only one, supports him. Furthermore, in the third season, Kurt Wallander is put in front of the difficult-to-get-to-work agency chief Mattson (actor: Sven Ahlström ), who in the last episode blackmails the inspector to quit because of his illness. However, Mattson is finally convicted and arrested by Wallander as the traitor in his own ranks to organized crime. After the successful conclusion of the last case, Kurt Wallander announces that the local police station in Ystad will be retained and will not be closed as planned or relocated to Malmö, as well as his departure from the police force.
Cast and dubbing
The series was set to music at Taunusfilm under the dialogue direction by Susanna Bonaséwicz .

criticism
“The series cannot avoid a bit of idle time in the thriller, which is otherwise convincing in terms of both craftsmanship and the good story. The international co-production [...] continues to be of a very high quality. However, there are a few small areas for improvement. It is still recommendable. "
"The better Tatort [...] and puts even the 'Tatort' series in the shade in terms of quality."
"With all due respect, also for the craftsmanship: A real downer is the synchronization, which audibly diminishes the quality of the film with its typical art German."
Trivia
