The documentary film Two halves are not a whole was made in 2008 . The film by the German - Turkish director Servet Ahmet Golbol is about reincarnation . There is a special form of rebirth, called Taqammus in Arabic , in which the reborn can remember their previous life and thus have to unite two lives, two identities. The Taqammus occurs particularly frequently in Antakya, Turkey .

This film is about four children and young people who claim to have lived before. On the one hand, there is 18-year-old Özer from Antakya, who remembers having worked as an electrician before. If a collapsing wall hadn't buried him, he would be 39 years old and have a family. On the other hand, the eleven-year-old Cansu does not understand that she is not allowed to visit her children from her previous life as "Lulu" because her mother-in-law prevents any contact from then. Also Soner and Mehmet, to whom it is similar.

The author and filmmaker Golbol himself comes from Antakya and came to Germany as the son of Turkish immigrants in the 1970s . He too has two different lives and has to combine two cultures. So he is also looking for his own story.

He turns to the religious leaders of the city with questions. He speaks with the Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Antakyas, with the Imam of the Sunni Habib Neccar Mosque, the Jewish community council and with one of the most respected Alawite Sheikhs. Thus Antakya plays an important supporting role as a peaceful place in the tradition of the late ancient Antioch appears to be closely linked, by its tolerance and religious diversity with the fate of the children.

The themes, which are already emotional in themselves, are underlined even more strongly by the melodies of Quadro Nuevo .
