Nova Bassano , officially Portuguese Município de Nova Bassano , is a small town in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil . The population was estimated at 9824 inhabitants in 2018. A large part of the population speaks Talian .
history
At the end of the 19th century, the area was a center of Italian immigration. The first settlers of Nova Bassano came from northern Italy around 1890. At that time the settlement was called "Bassano". The name goes back to the Italian town of Bassano del Grappa , the hometown of most of the settlers. For decades Nova Bassano was part of a larger community and was founded on May 23, 1964 as part of a community reform. The municipalities of Nova Bassano, Nova Araça and Paraí emerged from the division of the municipality of Nova Prata .
geography
The municipality and the city of the same name are 563 meters above sea level . It is about 185 kilometers northeast of Porto Alegre . The neighboring municipalities are Guaporé, Serafina Corrêa, Nova Araçá, Nova Prata and Vista Alegre do Prata.
The municipality extends over an area of 211.6 square kilometers east of the Rio Carreiro river .
economy
Nova Bassano is characterized by its high human development index (0.747 in 2010). The high economic power of the city is reflected in the great diversity of the individual economic sectors ( agriculture and livestock , metal industry , food industry and trade ). The metal industry is of particular importance due to the settlement of important large companies in the city.
Attractions
Nova Bassano is located in the Serra Gaúcha region and on the banks of the Rio Carreiro river. Their main attractions are:
- the waterfalls of the Cascata da Boa Fé , a treasure of biodiversity with over a hundred native tree species
- the historical museum (MPMNB)
- the cathedral (Igreja Matriz Sagrado Coração de Jesus) from the XIX. century
- the Rodeios park
- the chapel and the cross on the hill of monte Paréu ( monte Caravágio ), from the top of which there is a wonderful view of the entire area
- the Padre Colbachini square
- the wine route through the Serra Gaúcha
- the Balneário do Rio Carreiro

The vast majority of the inhabitants belong to the Roman Catholic Church . The city's patron is the Sacred Heart of Jesus .

Nova Bassano has a subtropical humid climate , according to the climate classification of Köppen and Geiger Cfa . The annual average temperature is around 18 ° C, and fluctuates between 5 ° C in July and 35 ° C in January. The annual rainfall is 1650 mm.
