Życie Warszawy
Życie Warszawy (German "The Life of Warsaw" ) is a Polish daily newspaper published in Warsaw .
The newspaper first appeared on October 15, 1944 on the initiative of the Polish Workers' Party . 1945 to 1951 the newspaper was published by the cooperative publisher "Czytelnik" and later by the cooperative workers' publisher RSW "Prasa Książka Ruch - dt .: Press Book Movement" . Życie Warszawy was, alongside Trybuna Ludu , one of the most important magazines in the People's Republic of Poland . In the years 1970 to 1981 the newspaper was accompanied by various supplements, among them "Życie i Nowoczesność" - German: Life and Modernity .
The editors-in-chief included W. Borowski, Henryk Korotyński, Jerzy Wójcik, Ryszard Wojna, Kazimierz Wóycicki, Tomasz Wołek, Aleksander Chećko, Andrzej Bober, M. Zagórski, U. Surmacz-Imienińska, A. Załucki .
After 1991, the newspaper was the subject of behind-the-scenes bidding competitions. The newspaper became the property of the Sardinian businessman Nicola Grauso and later of the Pole Zbigniew Jakubas . It is currently published by Dom Prasowy Sp. Z oo (Pressehaus GmbH) .
In 2006 the paper was to turn into an opinion newspaper. After the project of publishing a new opinion-forming magazine (following the appearance of Dziennik on the market), its owner Michał Sołowow proposed a new composition of the editorial team, in which Paweł Lisicki should be the editor-in-chief with a main staff from the publicists Piotr Semka, Maciej Rybiński, Wojciech Wencel, Igor Janke and Paweł Bravo. In March 2006, however, they withdrew from the project.
The Friday edition of Życie Warszawy is accompanied by regional newspapers that appear in ten powiats of the Masovian Voivodeship . In them there is a weekly overview of local events. Currently there are Życie Garwolina , Życie Gostynina , Mińska (Mazowiecki), Otwocka , Płocka , Płońska , Radomskie , Siedleckie , Sierpca and Życie Sokołowa Podlaskiego .
In summer 2007 Sołowow sold the newspaper to Presspublica-Verlagsholding, a joint venture between the British investment fund Mecom (51%) and PW Rzeczpospolita (49%), which is part of the Polish state treasury. The trade press speculated that the takeover of the newspaper by Presspublica should make a planned entry into the Warsaw newspaper market more difficult, especially for its competitor Polska - The Times (published by the Polskapresse publishing group ). Since March 2008 Życie Warszawy appears as a supplement to the Rzeczpospolita , which is interpreted as a sign of a future attitude as an independent title.
