development

While the source code of the program core is not freely available ( closed source ), the author offers a quite extensive development package under the rules of a BSD license , which contains the source code of most of the components.

Range of functions

In the standard installation, the player has a simple user interface with many customization options and functions, including: a. for displaying and editing metadata , support for high-quality audio output (e.g. 24-bit, 96-kHz output; dithering ; noise shaping ), as well as a number of plug-ins for various tasks. Simple visualizations are also integrated, e.g. B. for waveform , pitch or a frequency domain analysis .

Some functions are:

  • The display of pieces of music in the playlist , in the database and in various other locations can be customized using a relatively complex scripting language
  • Several playlists in parallel using tabs
  • Fully customizable keyboard shortcuts
  • Changeable and adaptable context menus (from version 1.0.0 only limited)
  • Customizable standard user interface (from version 0.9.5)
  • Flexible plug-in programming interface enables developers to change or add almost any function (user interface / skins , decoding, output, visualization, DSP etc.)
  • Replay gain support
  • freedb support (from version 0.9.4)
  • Editing of metadata (e.g. ID3 tags ), also converting and reading out of file names

  • Uninterrupted playback of MP3 files with LAME tag; For MP3 files without such a tag, this can be created retrospectively with foobar2000, provided that the encoder delay and the sample-accurate length of the original are known.
  • Reading and playing of audio files from ZIP or RAR archives
  • Supports audio streaming
  • Full Unicode support
