His elder sister Mithlesh died after four year of disturbed marriage life. There was lot of tension & problem in her married life. After this tragedy most of Arvind Gaur’s play deals with women & social issues i.e. domestic violence, dowry, feudalism and injustice.

His wife Dr.Sangeeta Gaur is a very talented vocalist, composer & music director .He has twin daughters Kakoli & Saveree.studing in 8th class. Though he comes from a normal background sans the paraphernalia of cars, air conditioners and the like, his dreams were always big and he wanted to be socially active even in his early years. He’s kept his life philosophy simple yet inspiring - “Follow your dreams and never fear failure. What the society has to say about you can be altered by taking up what your heart says.”

Theatre Career

After completing his schooling from Model School, Vivak Vihar in Delhi, he decided to do his engineering in Electronic Communication from PUSA Institute. Simultaneously he joined Delhi Public Library drama group .In DPL He acted and directed various plays. Then he worked with slum kids & Industrial labours for some time and conducted workshops for them. His first street play was with Zakir Hussein College, called ‘Videshi Aya’.It became very popular and He staged it around 200 schools. After this his desire to express led him to journalism. He worked with leading newspaper Navbharat Times as Culture Columnist about four years. He learned Journalism under the guidence of late Shri Rajendra Mathur ( piller of Hindi Journalism ) and late Shri S.P.Singh (founder presenter of Aaj Tak ).

Watching plays, reading about them and writing about them, that is how, in a way, his training in theatre started. He then shifted to Press Trust of India-TV (news agency). He was associated with TV serial Tana- Bana.He was in charge of the research and programming here. All through his years with street theatre, print and television, Gaur had developed keen interest in direction. Finally after devoting two years to PTI- TV he felt the urge to switch to theatre completely.

Arvind Gaur formed his own theatre group Asmita in 1993. This, he feels, was the turning point in his life. His group Asmita group did plays in slums, colleges, big cities, abroad and a whole wide spectrum of spaces. Under Asmita he’s done plays in virtually every corner of India and now the world be it Jammu, Chennai,Jaipur, Assam, USA, Australia, Russia, France and UAE…they’ve not left one city uncovered.
