In 2007 the Australian national football team had ten matches scheduled. Four of these were finals matches for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup and the rest were friendlies. The poor performances at the Asian Cup would soon signal the end of Graham Arnold's tenure as head coach, his final swan song being the game against Argentina. Having not yet found a coach after Arnold's departure, Australia's technical director, Rob Baan, would take over the last match of the year against Nigeria.

Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, known in Japan as Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl is the anime series which follows Ash Ketchum through his trials and tribulations in the Sinnoh region. Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl is the continuation of Pokémon: Advanced Generation, with the premise of “New Adventure”. The anime was in correspondence to the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games showcasing the various Pokémon and locations in the Sinnoh region. The anime saw the departure of May and Max, but also the addition of Dawn. While Ash Ketchum continues on his journey to become a Pokémon Master, Dawn wants to compete in Pokémon Contests. As before, the female protagonist guest appears in the second season of the new generation; this is Ash and Brock's old friend May, that meets them at Lake Valor and travel with them to the Wallace Cup.

*Ash Ketchum / Satoshi: The hero of the Pokémon series. Ash Ketchum has all the qualities one can look for in a hero; Brave, Heroic, and Loyal. While Ash at times tends to be a bit headstrong, his intentions are true, and his love for Pokémon is unrivaled. Ash has a dream to become the greatest Pokémon Master ever. His Pokémon journey to Sinnoh will test his strenghts of his continuing adventures of becoming the greatest.

*Dawn / Hikari: A brand new trainer who plans to become the greatest coordinator, like her mother. She started off with a Piplup, after the both of them worked together at Lake Verity. She's very confident in her contest, but she goes a bit too over focused, which causes her to loose most of her contests, but she is guided by her Rival/Friend, Zoey, who is also a coordinator.

An evil organization run by the ruthless Giovanni. * Jessie / Musashi: Vain and strong willed, Jessie shows that she is someone not to mess with. With a lonely past, and tough upbringing, Jessie has the strength and determination of one who is an independent woman. Her credentials in Team Rocket are ones that aren’t to be overlooked, however time and time again Jessie has failed in achieving various missions; namely that of capturing Pikachu. A running gag throughout the series is that pokemon such as Totodile, Scyther, and Seviper somehow mess up her hair.

Team Galactic is the new criminal team in the anime series, and has made several appearances in the anime. So far, only a couple of grunts and Saturn have appeared. They first appeared in "A Secret Sphere of Influence!", though it was a brief apperance at the end. In their following appearance in, "Journey to the Unknown!", with Saturn revealing his Bronzor. Team Galactic have lately appeared again in "Enter Galactic!", where Saturn appears yet again. This episode is also the time when Ash and his friends finally encounter them. Saturn also battles Brock with their Toxicroak and Croagunk, respectively. However, Ash Dawn, Brock and the others end up in a draw, and the mission becomes failed, leaving Team Galactic to retreat.

Paul/Shinji
|-
Paul is Ash's Sinnoh rival. He is a strict and difficult trainer to his Pokémon and to other people that don't seem to be that strong to training their Pokémon, like how they are at a weak level/strenght. In his first appearance in the Sinnoh Generation, he catched 3 Starlys, but he released all three of them by the end of the episode. He has a brother named Reggie, who appeared in, "Lost Leader Strategy", and seems to be the complete opposite of Paul, as he supports and encourage Ash and his friends, as well as Maylene. Paul sees Ash as a lame trainer, because he doesn't see how Ash can make his Pokemon stronger the more inspiring way. Especially how Ash made friends with his no longer owned Chimchar, which he then let's Chimchar to join his team. Paul released Chimchar, because he wasn't able to make Chimchar use his massive use of Fire moves. This later happened when Chimchar scorched in, "The Scorching Chimchar".

May, Ash and Brock's old friend, was once a main character in the Advanced Generation. She returns for 4 episodes to compete in the Wallace Cup. To Dawn, she is her rival, as they are both coordinators, but good friends, too. May is now seen in her Pokémon Emerald clothes, rather than her original clothes. She is now a recurring character in the Diamond/Pearl series. May's contest and battling skills have only gotten better while in Johto. Her Pokémon have all gotten stronger and some have even evolved while she was away. This shows that her bond with her Pokémon has grown and that it will continue to grow. She has revealed to obtain 3 Johto Ribbons, and half-of the ribbon she and Ash shared in the finale of Battle Frontier.

Gary is Ash's foremost rival in Sinnoh. His personailty is very strict and more serious. He says Ash shouldn't call him "Buddy". But, he has gotten nicer, and is even a gentleman at times. Though Gary has proven to be quite the battler, he loves researching Pokémon and learning as much about them as he can.

Nando/Naoshi
A musical vagabond travelling throughout the lands of Sinnoh, Nando has great knowledge on Sinnoh myths, and prefers nature over civilization. Nando was the first trainer Dawn battled against. After some contemplation regarding the decision of choosing the path of badges or contests, Nando decided to participate in both. Nando has become a rival to both Ash and Dawn, winning one badge and competing in several contests. He is an uncommonly calm and gentle man, and prefers to request his Pokémon to attack rather than command them. He has the Forest Badge and two ribbons.

Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, known in Japan as Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl (ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド&パール, Poketto Monsutā Daiyamondo Pāru) is the anime series which follows Ash Ketchum through his trials and tribulations in the Sinnoh region.

Main

 • Ash Ketchum / Satoshi: The hero of the Pokémon series.
 • Dawn / Hikari: A brand new trainer who plans to become the greatest coordinator, like her mother. She started off with a Piplup, after the both of them worked together at Lake Verity. She's very confident in her contest, but she goes a bit too over focused, which causes her to loose most of her contests, but she is guided by her Rival/Friend, Zoey, who is also a coordinator.
 • Brock / Takeshi: Former Gym Leader of the Pewter City Gym who is on a quest to become a Pokémon breeder. Brock, while a bit over ambitious with women, has a true heart of that of friend, and stands side by side with Ash on his journey to become a Pokémon Master.

Villains

Team Rocket

An evil organization run by the ruthless Giovanni. The goals and ambitions of Team Rocket are to rule the world by the exploitation and manipulation of Pokémon. Team Rocket is not essentially active in the Sinnoh region, however they followed Ash there.

 • Jessie / Musashi: Vain and strong willed, Jessie shows that she is someone not to mess with.
 • James / Kojiro: Like his partner Jessie, James is a vain individual. However, the difference with James is that he exposes a more sensitive side to his character. Coming from a stable and rich family, James decided early on that the lifestyle of wealth wasn’t for him, thus deserting his family only to find himself in Team Rocket.
 • Meowth/Nyarth: Sassy, quick witted, and determined are the only three ways to describe Meowth. The talking Pokémon, Meowth, has his start in the lonely streets of Hollywood. However, when Meowth decided to pursue his dreams of wealth and fame, he joined with said organization Team Rocket.

Team Galactic

The team has returned for a big role in DP96 & DP97, "The Charge of Team Galaxy! (Parts 1 and 2)". Commander Mars, Commander Jupiter, and Leader Cyrus have made their debut in these two episodes. All four of the admins have revealed a majority of their Pokémon. Now Ash and the gang have stopped them, but their plans have not yet been completed for the time being.

Sinnoh rivals

Paul/Shinji

May/Haruka

Gary/Shigeru

Nando's Pokémon

Zoey/Nozomi

Zoey is Dawn's first rival, and a Coordinator. They are considered friends than the usual enemy. Zoey has competed in many contests and has earned two ribbons so far (One of them from the Jubilife contest and another from when she beat Kenny, before she met Dawn). Zoey kind of plays the role of the "big sister" to Dawn, always giving her word of advice and telling her when she's done something wrong.

Zoey's Pokemon

Kenny/Kengo

Dawn's childhood friend and rival, and called "Kengo" in Japanese. He is a good co-ordinator, but is usually over-confident. He managed to win the Sable Town Ribbon and his second ribbon right after that. He often calls Dawn "Dee-Dee" which she doesn't seem to like, or want to talk about. Kenny loves showing off how well he's trained his Pokémon and how powerful their attacks usually are.

Gardenia is the Gym Leader of the Eterna City Gym. Trainers who defeat her receive the Forest Badge. She is a young woman who specializes in Grass-type Pokémon.
