(11238) Johanmaurits is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery was made as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory ( IAU code 675) .

The asteroid was named on March 6, 2004 after the Dutch Field Marshal Johann Moritz Fürst von Nassau-Siegen (1604–1679), who served as Governor General of the possessions of the Dutch West India Company in Brazil (Dutch Brazil) from 1636 to 1644 and reformed the colony's administration and industry.
