(11311) Peleus is a low earth asteroid from Apollo-type . These are heavenly bodies whose orbits can cross the earth's orbit .
The asteroid was discovered on December 10, 1993 by the American astronomers C. S. Shoemaker and EM Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) and is named after Peleus , the king of Thessaly who was married to the sea nymph Thetis and father of Achilles .
(11311) Peleus is an asteroid of the spectral type S.
