(13647) Rey is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 20 April 1996 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( observatory code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the Geneva- born son of French Huguenots Marc-Michel Rey (1720–1780), who, as a publisher from Amsterdam , promoted the spread of Enlightenment literature.
