(14282) Cruijff is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .
The asteroid was named on September 23, 2010 after the Dutch professional footballer Johan Cruyff (1947-2016), who was also successful as a coach after his success as a player in the club and the national team.
