(18555) Courant is an asteroid of the main belt , which from February 4, 1997 Italian-American astronomer Paul G. Comba at the observatory Prescott ( IAU code 684) in Arizona was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the German-American mathematician Richard Courant (1888–1972), who founded the Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences in New York City after emigrating to the USA .
