Stefan Alvén (born December 12, 1968 ) is a Swedish former football player . The defender and midfielder , who spent his entire playing career in his home country, worked as a sports official after his career ended .

Career

Alvén started playing football at Asmundstorps IF . In 1986 he moved to the then second division Landskrona BoIS . In the following years he placed himself with the team in the middle table area of the league before they slipped into the relegation battle at the beginning of the 1990s. In 1991 he left the club and joined Malmö FF in the Allsvenskan . Here he was a regular player right from the start and joined Jonnie Fedel , Patrik Andersson , Niclas Nylén and Dan Corneliusson with the team in the championship finals of the 1991 and 1992 seasons , but without being able to intervene in the title race. Under coach Rolf Zetterlund , who had taken over the coaching post from Viggo Jensen before the start of the 1994 season , he moved into the second tier. After four seasons for the club from Skåne, he moved to Stockholm and joined the local first division club Djurgårdens IF . With the promoted by Anders Grönhagen he stayed at the side of Kaj Eskelinen , Magnus Pehrsson , Markus Karlsson and Fredrik Dahlström in the debut season in midfield of the league, in the 1996 season the crash into the second division followed. Alvén remained loyal to the club in the second division and returned with him at the end of the second division season in 1998 in the first division. In 24 of the 26 first division games of the 1999 season alongside Lucas Nilsson , Michael Borgqvist , Sharbel Touma and Niclas Rasck on the field, the defensive player could not prevent the direct relegation. However, he stayed in the Allsvenskan and joined the IFK Norrköping in early 2000. He finished the second season for the new club with the team around Mathias Florén , Jonas Wallerstedt , Kristian Bergström and Eddie Gustafsson as third from bottom of the Allsvenskan and had to play in the relegation games against Mjällby AIF . With a goal difference of 4: 3 in the first and second leg IFK Norrköping managed to stay up. He then ended his active career.

In February 2005 the general assembly of Djurgårdens IF elected Alvén, who had studied law during his time in Stockholm , to be a member of the board for legal questions. In November 2009 the club changed its structures, in this context the club promoted him to head of sport, who is responsible for sporting management. In order to strengthen the competition team, in May of the following year he finally moved up to the post of manager that had been introduced in November and had not yet been filled. He resigned from his post in early May 2011 after threatening himself and his family.
