At a youth tournament he was noticed by those responsible for FK Vojvodina Novi Sad who signed him in the summer of 1984. There was a short interlude in Yugoslavia, so that he soon returned to his home club. In the following two years he ran for the third division team in the Skåne relay and took places with him in the middle of the table.
Success with Malmö FF and national team calling
The young player had höherklassig attracts attention and joined before the first league season in 1987 the Malmo FF on. With last year's champions coached by Roy Hodgson , he led the table as a supplementary player who made five league appearances after regular time with five points ahead of IFK Norrköping and, after two wins against Östers IF in the championship finals, reached the final against IFK Göteborg . The team coached by Gunder Bengtsson was third in the regular season, but prevailed after a 1-0 home win and a 1-2 away defeat due to the away goals rule and won the championship. In his second year, the defensive player established himself as a regular. Once again he reached the finals of the championship finals with the club as leaders. In a clash with Stockholm club Djurgårdens IF , the Malmö club won the second leg after a goalless draw in the first leg with a 7-3 win, so that Nylén won the first title of his career.
In the 1989 season for the third time in a row they made it to the championship final, this time Nylén and the team had to admit defeat to IFK Norrköping . Nevertheless, he managed to win the title in the course of the year, as he and his team won the cup final. Due to his good performances over the course of the season he had played his way into the notebook of the Swedish national coach Olle Nordin . As part of qualifying for the World Cup finals in Italy, he made his debut on May 7, 1989 in a 2-1 win over Poland in the blue and gold jersey and scored the winning goal in stoppage time, which was the goal for the Swedes to play for the first time since the World Cup 1978 bumped wide. As a result, he stayed in the national team, but was mainly used as a substitute.
After Nylén changed his name at the beginning of 1990, Nordin included him in the squad for the World Cup finals in the summer of that year, in the three 2-1 defeats in the group stage against Costa Rica , Brazil and Scotland , he followed from the bench . Following the tournament, he remained loyal to his club, even if the successes failed to materialize under Hodgson's successors Bob Houghton and Viggo Jensen . Although he moved with the team in the 1991 and 1992 seasons again in the championship finals, which are now played in league mode, the club took places there in the rear. Following the 1994 season he left the club on loan and played for the Scottish club Ayr United during the winter break . After his return to Sweden at the beginning of the following year he was again one of the regulars under coach Rolf Zetterlund and helped the club to the runner-up behind IFK Göteborg in the 1996 season .
