(2004) Lexell is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 22, 1973 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid was named after the Swedish-Russian astronomer and mathematician Anders Johan Lexell (1740–1784), who was the first to calculate the orbit of the planet Uranus .
