(2249) Yamamoto is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on April 6, 1942 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the State Observatory in Heidelberg-Königstuhl ( IAU code 024) in Heidelberg .
The asteroid was named after the Japanese astronomer Yamamoto Issei (1889-1959), who was the first president of the Astronomical Society (天文 同好 会, Tenmon Dōkōkai) and director of the Kwasan Observatory in Kyoto .
