(24643) MacCready is the orbit of Mars grazing asteroid of the main belt , which on 28 September 1984 by the astronomer Carolyn Jean Spellman Shoemaker and Eugene Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory ( IAU code in 675) California was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the American physicist , engineer and glider pilot Paul MacCready (1933–2007), who won the first Kremer Prize as a pioneer of flying with muscle power with the Gossamer Condor he designed .
