designation

The namesake Alois Ortner was an Austrian optician and amateur astronomer. He was born in Carinthia in 1938 and was interested in optics as a child. As a fifteen-year-old he built a camera himself using the simplest means. As a teenager he worked on his parents' mountain farm, but then moved to Innsbruck and found a job at Swarovski Optik , where he was able to complete an apprenticeship as an optician. He passed the master craftsman examination at his later job at Wild Heerbrugg in Switzerland, for which he moved to Mäder in Vorarlberg . Alois Ortner had an excellent reputation as a precision optician and consultant on optical issues. He died in 2019 after a serious illness.

The asteroid was named in his honor on March 16, 2014.
