(378917) Stefankarge is an asteroid of the main outer belt that was discovered on October 28, 2008 by the German amateur astronomer Erwin Schwab by the Tzec Maun Observatory ( IAU Code H10) in Mayhill (New Mexico) , USA . The telescopes of this observatory can be remotely controlled online with access authorization.
Schwab dedicated the asteroid to the amateur astronomer Stefan Karge (* 1963). Both are members of the Physikalischer Verein - Society for Education and Science and have several asteroids in common, such as B. (274020) Skywalker , discovered. Karge is particularly involved in the observation of quasars and the discovery of over 50 asteroids. On September 9, 2014, the naming of the asteroid was confirmed by the International Astronomical Union .
