(4059) Balder is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 29 September 1987 by the Danish astronomer Poul Jensen at Brorfelde Observatory ( IAU code 054) near Holbæk in Danish Zealand was discovered.

The asteroid is named after the light god Balder from Norse mythology , who was a son of Odin .
