(49) Pales is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt , which was discovered on September 19, 1857 by Hermann Mayer Salomon Goldschmidt .

The heavenly body was named after Pales , the Roman patron goddess of willows, shepherds and flocks.

Pales has a diameter of 150 km. It has a dark carbonaceous surface with an albedo of 0.06.

It rotates around its own axis in 10 hours and 25 minutes.
