(5018) Tenmu is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 19 February 1977 by the Japanese astronomer Hiroki Kosai and Kiichiro Furukawa at the Kiso Observatory ( IAU code 381) in Kiso at Mount Ontake was discovered.

He was named after Temmu (~ 631-686), the 40th Tennō , who in 672 in the Jinshin Civil War tore the imperial dignity to himself and later as emperor reformed the legal system based on the model of the Chinese system.
