(5053) Chladni is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 22 March 1985 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the German physicist and astronomer Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni (1756–1827) who founded modern meteorite research in 1794 with his thesis on the origin of meteorites in space .
