(5160) Camoes is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 23 December 1979 by the Belgian astronomer Henri DEBEHOGNE and his Brazilian colleague Edgar Rangel net at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Portuguese poet Luís de Camões (1524–1580), who is revered as the national poet of Portugal.
