(5731) Zeus is a near-Earth asteroid of the Apollo type , which was discovered on November 4, 1988 by the American astronomers Carolyn Jean Spellmann Shoemaker and Eugene Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675).
The heavenly body is named after Zeus , the supreme god of Greek mythology .
