(6019) Telford is an asteroid of the main belt , which on September 3, 1991 by the British - Australian astronomer Robert McNaught at the Siding Spring Observatory ( IAU code 413) near Coonabarabran in New South Wales was discovered in Australia.
The asteroid belongs to the Eos family, a group of asteroids, which typically have large semiaxes from 2.95 to 3.1 AU , bounded inward by the Kirkwood gap of the 7: 3 resonance with Jupiter , and orbital inclinations between 8 ° and 12 °. The group is named after the asteroid (221) Eos . The family is believed to have emerged from a collision more than a billion years ago.
It was named on August 10, 2014 after the British civil engineer Thomas Telford (1757–1834), who was one of the first to use scientific methods in construction and thus built the Menai Bridge , the Caledonian Canal and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct .
