(6519) Giono is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 12 February 1991 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at de Observatoire Haute-Provence ( IAU code was discovered 511).
The asteroid was named after the French writer and playwright Jean Giono (1895-1970), who preferred the landscape of Haute Provence as the background for his works . From 1954 he was a member of the Académie Goncourt .
