(6556) Arcimboldo is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on December 29, 1989 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov .

The asteroid was on 9 May 2001 after the Italian painter of the Mannerist Giuseppe Arcimboldo named (~ 1526-1593), who became famous for his paintings and his intriguing portraits of flowers, fruits and animals.
