(7010) Locke is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 28 August 1987 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code of 809) European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the English philosopher and thought leader of the Enlightenment John Locke (1632-1704), who with his writings significantly influenced the Declaration of Independence of the United States , the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of revolutionary France .
