(8888) Tartaglia is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 8 July 1994 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the Observatoire de Calern ( Observatories Code 010) north of the city Grasse was discovered in southern France.
The asteroid is named after the mathematician of the Renaissance Niccolo Tartaglia named (1499-1557), who by his contributions to the solution of the cubic equation is known.
