(9485) Uluru is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 24 September 1960 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory ( observatory code 675) in California was discovered.

On April 2, 1999, the asteroid was named after Uluṟu , a sacred mountain due to its spiritual relevance to the dreamtime stories for the Aboriginal people , which is a landmark of Australia under its English name Ayers Rock .
