Água Fria , officially Município de Água Fria (German: cold water ) is a municipality in the state of Bahia , Brazil . The distance to the capital Salvador is around 146 km.
Surrounding places are Irará , Santanópolis , Ouriçangas , Aramari , Inhambupe , Sátiro Dias , Lamarão and Biritinga .
history
The history of settlement is closely linked to the Bahia Capitanate and the development of the hinterland of Salvador. A parish of Fregueisa de São João Batista de Água Fria was created by royal decree of April 11, 1718, and the core settlement as Vila de São João Batista de Água Fria by royal order of April 28, 1727 . In the time of the province of Bahia the status of Vila was abolished and the area of the Vila de Purificação de Campos was added, today the city of Irará, where it became a district. On July 13, 1962, Água Fria was spun off from Irará and raised to an independent Munizip.
Since 2017 it forms the Região geográfica imediata Feira de Santana with 32 other cities . The town of Feira de Santana is around 73 km away.

Festivals
Every year on January 20th there is a festival for the patron saint São Sebastião with a procession. Since 2003, a secular festival, the Caju Festival , has been held in front of the main church (Igreja Matriz de Água Fria) . The festival is named after the cashew nut, which is economically important for the town , and the music festival now attracts around 100,000 visitors from all over Bahia.
