Álvaro Fernández , full name Álvaro Fernández Gay , (born October 11, 1985 in Nueva Palmira ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The El Flaco called Fernández began his football career in professional football in the Apertura 2006 in the Uruguayan second division at Club Atlético Atenas . There he completed 15 league matches and scored three goals. He then moved to Clausura in 2007, initially to the Montevideo Wanderers . During that season he made 13 appearances (two goals) in the Primera División . Also in the following two half-rounds he was there in the squad and was thus set up in a total of 43 league matches (three goals). From there, his way led him via a stopover in the Apertura 2008 at the Mexican club Puebla FC (13 games, no goal) to Nacional Montevideo , where he contributed to winning the 2008/09 season with 15 championship appearances and five goals scored. Also in the Copa Libertadores and the Liguilla Pre Libertadores 2009 are the Bolsos usage dates for him. His next stop was the Portuguese club Vitória Setúbal (2009/10 season, 9 games, no goal). From the beginning of 2010 he played in Chile for Universidad de Chile until May , again on loan. In Chile he was eleven times (one goal) in the Torneo Apertura in the Primera División on the pitch. Álvaro Fernández moved to Seattle Sounders FC on June 29, 2010 in Major League Soccer as a designated player. On July 31, 2010, he made his MLS debut. He was substituted on for the game against the San Jose Earthquakes . In July 2012, depending on the sources, he moved 59 or 55 MLS missions with 13 hits to MLS competitor Chicago Fire . There he completed 13 games in the MLS in 2012 and scored two goals. After playing for six months on loan at Al Rayyan under Uruguayan coach Diego Aguirre in the first half of 2013 from mid-January , he was again under contract with his ex-club Nacional Montevideo in the 2013/14 season as part of a loan . There he came in the Apertura 2013 to 14 appearances in the Primera División and scored one goal. On January 22, 2014, his initially loan move to the Argentine club Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata was announced. He signed a six-month contract. For the Argentinians, who signed him from July 2014, he played 57 league games (five goals), two games (no goal) in the Copa Sudamericana 2014 and three encounters (no goal) in the Copa Argentina . At the end of July 2016, he moved again to the Seattle Sounders and so far (as of July 15, 2017) has played 23 games (one goal) in the MLS.

National team

Fernández belonged at least in June 2007 to the U-23 team of Uruguay, supervised by Roland Marcenaro . The midfielder is also a member of the Uruguayan national team . He was appointed by national coach Óscar Tabárez to his home country's squad for the 2010 World Cup . There he stood on the square four times. Since his debut on April 1, 2009 in the World Cup qualifier against Chile, he has played a total of twelve international matches, in which he was denied a personal goal. After playing for the last time in a national team game on July 2, 2010, he celebrated his comeback at Celeste after more than two years when he came on as a substitute for the international qualifying match against Bolivia on October 16, 2012. (Status: July 4, 2013) So far, no further deployment has followed, but he was most recently part of the squad for the World Cup qualifiers on March 26, 2013 against Chile and on September 6, 2013 against Peru, but was not used.
