Count Aeneas Sylvius von Caprara , Italian Enea Silvio de Caprara, (* 1631 in Bologna ; † February 3, 1701 ) was an imperial field marshal in the Habsburg service.

He was the son of the Bolognese Senator Niccolò Caprara , Conte di Pantano, entered the imperial military service early and accompanied his relative, Count Raimondo Montecúccoli , on his campaigns against the Turks and French . He received independent command of a cavalry corps on the Rhine in 1674 and took part in the battles of Sinsheim and Enzheim as well as in the other battles on the Rhine until 1678.

In 1683, as commander of the cavalry, he fought against the insurgents in Hungary and drove the enemy out of the heavily entrenched Nussdorf during the relief of Vienna . During the siege of Ofen in 1684 he was attached to the Elector of Bavaria. In 1685 he took Neuhäusel fortress by storm, and in 1686 he pushed as far as the borders of Transylvania .

In the third campaign of the French War in 1691, he commanded the Rhine. In 1692 he invaded the Dauphiné with the Duke of Savoy , and in 1694 he commanded again in Hungary, where he repulsed all attacks by the Turks on his position near Peterwardein . After having fought in 44 campaigns, he joined the Court War Council as vice-president and was one of the opponents of Prince Eugene of Savoy , as he was not very popular among fellow states and ranks because of his malicious and incompatible nature. He died on February 3, 1701.
