Åsa Lönnqvist

Åsa Lönnqvist (born April 14, 1970 ) is a Swedish former soccer player . After her career, the defender , who took part in several final tournaments with the Swedish national team , became a sports official .

Career

Lönnqvist started her career at Tyresö FF . With the women's team of the club, she rose to the Damallsvenskan in 1992 and became a national player the following year. On March 9, 1993, she made her debut in the 3-1 win against the French national team in the national jersey. While she was fighting relegation with her club team, she had established herself as a regular player in the selection team. Two years after her debut, she took part in the 1995 World Cup with her . In the course of the tournament with three stakes, she failed in the quarter-finals on the Chinese team on penalties . She was also at the 1996 Olympic Games , but failed with the team in the group stage.

At the end of the 1996 season Lönnqvist rose with Tyresö FF in the second division. She then moved to the reigning champion Älvsjö AIK , with whom she dominated the championship and the cup competition in the following years . Accordingly, the club also provided a number of national players and alongside their club mates Cecilia Sandell , Camilla Andersson , Malin Allberg , Malin Swedberg , Eva Larsson and Malin Andersson , she was part of Marika Domanski Lyfors' squad for the 1997 European Championship , but lost with the team in the semi-finals against Germany . Two years later, the club provided five of the 20 players for the 1999 World Cup finals , until Lönnqvist played all four tournament games until they lost 3-1 to Norway . In the 2000 season only third in the table, she was still part of the squad at the Summer Olympics . Again, the team was eliminated in the group stage. After 76 international matches , she then ended her career.

After her career ended, Lönnqvist moved to the board of her home club Tyresö FF. In March 2011 she was also elected to the board of Svenska Fotbollförbundet .
