Marika Domanski Lyfors (born May 17, 1960 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish former football player and coach . Since 2008 she has been the head of the football department of the Swedish Football Association and responsible for the training of players and coaches.

Club career

As a child she played at Nödinge SK in Nödinge-Nol , north of Gothenburg, and as a teenager at Surte IS in the neighboring municipality of Surte. At 19, she moved to Jitex BK , where she played for five years. In 1981 and 1984 she won the Swedish double with Jitex, and she won another cup in 1982. She then worked for GAIS Göteborg for three years .

Coaching career

She has been a trainer since 1989 and initially worked for the Tyresö FF team in the Stockholm suburb of Tyresö for five years . At the same time, she looked after the U-20 women of the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) from 1991 to 1993 and was still cotrainer for the Swedish national team during this time . In 1996 she took over the position of trainer from Bengt Simonsson , which she held until 2005. With her, the Swedes reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in their own country in 1997 , but lost 1-0 to Germany . In 2001 they advanced to the final of the European Championship, which they lost again to Germany with a golden goal . In 2003 the Swedish women reached the final of the World Cup in the USA with her , in which they again played against Germany in Carson and were also only defeated 1: 2 after an extension. Also at the 2004 Olympic Games , Marika Domanski Lyfors and her team failed against Germany; they lost again in the game for the bronze medal with 0: 1. At the European Championships in 2005 , the end came in the semi-finals against Norway .

From 2005 Marika Domanski Lyfors took over the Swedish U-21 women. In March 2007 she signed a contract with the Chinese Association after the German Eckhard Krautzun resigned for health reasons. With the host in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in their own country, however, they could not meet the high expectations of the Chinese. In October 2007 she resigned "for health and family reasons". Back home, she took over the chairmanship of the football department of the SvFF.
