Edgar Milciades Benítez Santander (born November 8, 1987 in Repatriación ) is a Paraguayan football player who has been under contract with the Mexican club Querétaro FC since mid-2015 .

Career

In 2004 Benítez played at Club 12 de Octubre in Itauguá before moving to the capital Asunción to the top club Libertad . From 2006 he was there regularly and had 14 and 13 appearances in the two championship years 2006 and 2007, but he did not become a regular player. As a center forward, he had only scored a single goal in both years.

He had his big breakthrough in the 2008 season, when he moved to Sol de América , which are also based in Asunción. He scored 21 goals this year, 14 of them in the Clausura made him the top scorer in the second half of the season. The national team reported immediately and Benítez, who had previously played in the U20 team, came to his first international match on August 20, 2008.

At the end of the year he then moved to the Mexican Primera División for the top club CF Pachuca . He was a regular there from the start and qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League in the first year , which the Mexicans won the following year. With 4 goals he was the second best goalscorer of his team in this competition.

In the national team, Edgar Benítez was also used regularly, but behind the star strikers of Paraguay, such as Roque Santa Cruz and Nelson Valdez , who played in Europe, he was only a substitute player. Nevertheless, after his country's qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he was also included in the World Cup squad . In the last group game he was 0-0 as a substitute for Valdez for his first World Cup appearance.

Benítez is nicknamed El Pájaro , the bird , because of his fast forwards in the storm .
