Étienne-Barthélémy Bagnoud CRA (born January 1, 1803 in Icogne , † November 2, 1888 in Saint-Maurice ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic clergyman and abbishop of the Corporal Saint-Maurice Abbey .

He was the son of Stephan-Barthélemy Bagnoud and his wife Magdalena geb. Badin. Étienne-Barthélémy Bagnoud put 1826 in the Abbey of Saint-Maurice , the profession from. From 1829 to 1834 he was a professor at the College of Saint-Maurice.

On September 3, 1834, Étienne-Barthélémy Bagnoud was elected Abbot of Saint-Maurice and in 1835 he was appointed . Pope Gregory XVI appointed him on July 3, 1840 titular bishop of Bethlehem . He was ordained bishop on July 26th of the same year by the Bishop of Sitten Moritz Fabian Roten .

During the regeneration period, Étienne-Barthélémy Bagnoud initially supported the Lower Valais radicals , but then switched to the Upper Valais conservatives. Since the Abbey of Saint-Maurice had supported the Sonderbund , it was threatened with secularization in 1848 . Although this could be averted, the abbey had to cede part of the monastery property.

Étienne-Barthélémy Bagnoud was a participant in the First Vatican Council .
