Joseph Paccolat

Joseph Paccolat (born March 29, 1823 in Collonges , † April 5, 1909 in Saint-Maurice ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic abbishop of the Corporal Abbey of Saint-Maurice.

Life

He was born the son of Jean-Isidore Paccolat and his wife Catherine nee. Pochon. After attending the College of Saint-Maurice, he entered the novitiate of the Saint-Maurice Abbey and made profession in 1843 . On April 19, 1851, he received the sacrament of ordination . From 1850 to 1858 he worked as a teacher at the College of Saint-Maurice, from 1854 to 1858 he was secretary of the chapter of Saint-Maurice. Joseph Paccolat worked as a pastor from 1860–1862 in the parish of Bagnes , 1862–1874 in Vollèges and 1874–1888 in Vétroz.

The Chapter of the Order elected him abbot of Saint-Maurice on December 4, 1888 . Thereupon Pope Pius X appointed him on February 5, 1889 titular bishop of Bethlehem . The episcopal ordination donated him on May 5, 1889 Gaspard Mermillod , Bishop of Lausanne and Geneva ; Co- consecrators were Adrien Jardinier , Bishop of Sion , and Jules-François Philippe MSFS , Coadjutor Bishop of Visakhapatnam in India.

Act

Joseph Paccolat had the college enlarged from 1893–1894 and founded a vicariate in Vollèges. Apart from his travels to Rome, where he met with Popes Leo XIII. and Pius X. met, he rarely left the abbey.
