biography

Evelyne Crochet was born in Paris in 1934, where she studied piano with Yvonne Lefébure and Nadia Boulanger at the Conservatory . In 1953 she won a first prize at the conservatory. She completed her further pianistic training with Edwin Fischer and Rudolf Serkin . At the International Competition in Geneva in 1956 she won first prize and at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1958 she was one of the winners. In Bern , Rudolf Serkin heard her playing and then invited her to become a student in his master classes. Crochet accepted the offer and moved permanently to the United States in 1958. As a soloist she has appeared in many American and European concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City , Symphony Hall in Boston, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Concertgebouw and the Wiener Konzerthaus . She has worked for many years with the Boston Symphony Orchestra , but has also given concerts with many other important orchestras, in Germany including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the NDR Radiophilharmonie . She has worked as an academic teacher at various American universities ( Brandeis University , Rutgers University , Boston University , Georgia State University and at the New England Conservatory in Boston ).

Her repertoire spans three centuries from the baroque to modern times. Among other things, she recorded the entire piano works by Gabriel Fauré and, in 2006, the Well-Tempered Clavier (WT) Part I and II on CD . The music critic Richard Dyer compared her interpretation of WT I + II with those of Daniel Barenboim and Wladimir Aschkenasi in the Boston Globe and described it as "the most satisfying" of all contemporary recordings (" ... the most completely satisfying ... " ).
