Ölbäck is a nature reserve in the parish ( Swedish socken ) Endre on the Swedish island of Gotland . Parts of the sand hills and the open Alvar areas belong to the EU network Natura 2000 .

In Ölbäck there used to be an inn for travelers between Endre and Visby and near the village land ( Swedish bytomt ) grow feral garden plants species such as cherry , plum , rowan , Bryonia Alba , lilac , Mealy mullein , Langblättriger Blue loosestrife , Meadow knapweed , feverfew and Small Grape Hyacinth . There are even individual specimens of snapdragon , lettuce and Canadian fleabane next to the road .

On the rubble hill ( Swedish grusåsen ) that leads south from the country road, one of the great rarities of the nature reserve, white summer arum (or thyme summer arum , Latin orobanche alba ) grows . Among the other species of the hill falling Shaggy Spitzkiel Svartoxbär ( Latin cotoneaster niger ), Backfingerört ( Latin potentilla sordida ), Grå småfingerört ( Latin potentilla subarenaria ), blackening pea , Kassuben vetch , Austrian Lein , Jasione Montana , Dwarf Cudweed and dunes Sheep fescue ( Latin festuca polesica ) and some specimens of Klippoxel ( Latin sorbus rupicola ). In areas of the nature reserve where the rock forms the surface with almost no humus cover ( Swedish hällmark ), you can find the unusual sprouting rock carnation and the floury mullein grows on the site of a former barn . Other species are Övriga arter common coniferous herb , gnarled fattened herb and alpine bluegrass . Common fern , ivy and buckthorn grow in the cracks in the rock .

Sand cinquefoil has even been seen on the Alvar plains north of the roads . Here are also Bloody Cranesbill , Dove Skabiose and melica ciliata easy to find. Even stone cranesbill happens also Sorbus aria, Balkanoxel ( latin Sorbus graeca ) and Klippoxel ( latin Sorbus rupicola ). North of the milestone in the reserve grows Centaurium erythraea on a low sand hills. Also Salad Burnet and Vildsparris and Gotländsk haverrot ( Latin tragopogon crocifolius ) have been found here. Nearby is also coming rock stonecrop and Tasteless Stonecrop and further north Sagina nodosa , Rock mugwort ( Latin artemisia rupestris ) and wall-Pippau ( Latin crepis tectorum ), Silene uniflora ( Swedish alvarglim ) and a few tufts of highly endangered Kalknarv ( Latin arenaria gothica ). Cultivated plants such as arable gauchheil , broad-leaved hollow tooth and small toadflax are also found here. Even the blue-winged sand insect is abundant here.

In the north-eastern part of the area there is an area on Alvar surfaces with vats emerging from layers of sand. Here dominates Red bent grass , incidentally also comes Sagina nodosa , field mint , Rock mugwort , Meadow knapweed , Höstfila , chives ( Swedish alvargräslök ) and Poa alpina ago. An unusual species that occurs here in individual specimens is Blåfibbla ( Latin pilosella praealta ). Garlic germander is found in some of the deeper fathers. Closer to the road grows Aira praecox and Centaurium erythraea , Trifolium arvense and Blåmunk .

In the rest of the reserve you can even find pasque flower and blue-green rush . In addition, Ölbäck has a rich funga , that is, an abundance of mushrooms. Among the rarer species are laven Heppia ( Latin Heppia lutosa ) and the mushrooms Geastrum berkeleyi ( Swedish sträv jordstjärna ) and Ramaria broomei ( Swedish svartnande fingersvamp ).

Along the old road from Endre to Visby, which ran a little higher in the terrain than the current road, there is a medieval stone cross, which was erected in memory of Mr. Jörgen in Endre, who is said to have perished there in 1336.
