Ömerli ( Kurdish Amara ) is a village in Halfeti district in the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa . Ömerli is located in southeastern Anatolia , approx. 19 km northeast of Halfeti. The place Amara was founded in the middle of the 9th century by the Paulikians , who had taken over the rule in the east of the Byzantine Empire under their leader Karbeas .

In 1985 655 people lived in Ömerli. In 2009 the village had 582 inhabitants.

Ömerli is the birthplace of Abdullah Öcalan . There are regular demonstrations by supporters of the PKK on the occasion of his birthday.
