The ATE IIIb were triple-coupled passenger trains - steam locomotives of the kk priv. Aussig-Teplitz Railway .

history

After the success with the class IIIa supplied by Hartmann in Chemnitz in 1869 , ATE purchased further locomotives of this type from the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik in Wiener Neustadt as class IIIb from 1889 .

The locomotives were used quite universally. Both operations in front of heavy freight trains and in passenger train service on the main ATE route between Aussig and Komotau are documented . An undated photo shows an ATE IIIb in front of the special train of the Russian tsarina to Karlsbad .

After the nationalization of ATE (1924), 25 locomotives came to the Czechoslovak State Railway ČSD and received the new series designation  322.4 .

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, some of the locomotives were part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn . There they were given the company numbers 53 7401 to 7413. After 1945 the machines came back to ČSD, which, however, soon decommissioned them.

technical features

The locomotives were largely similar to the previously acquired class IIIa locomotives. In contrast to these, however, the boiler was operated with approximately the same dimensions with 11 atmospheric steam pressure, which enabled a slight increase in output.

Outwardly, the locomotives essentially differed only in the design of the spark arrester and the arrangement of the sandpit.
