The steam locomotive series kkStB 11 were express train - locomotives of the Imperial Austrian State Railways (kkStB), originally from the Austrian NordWestBahn came (ÖNWB).

history

When procuring these type 2C machines , the ÖNWB wanted to gain experience with composite machines and therefore ordered both wet steam (a total of 5 pieces) and composite versions (a total of 19 pieces). The wet steam variant was classified as series  XIVa , the composite variant as series  XIVb . Both variants were manufactured by the StEG locomotive factory and delivered from 1896 to 1909. Karl Gölsdorf worked on the draft. Its appearance was determined by the massive double dome with connector pipe and sandpit built around it.

After ordering and comparing five pieces each, it was decided to continue purchasing the compound machines. The last delivery of the XIVb (6 pieces) already had Popp valves, a grease gun and an automatic suction air brake .

The machines in this series were mostly used between Znaim and Jihlava to move express trains weighing up to 250 t. Their good performance prompted the Buschtěhrad Railway (BEB) to procure 17 machines, which were classified as BEB VIII . The Aussig-Teplitzer Eisenbahn (ATE) bought four locomotives of this type ( ATE Ic ).

After the nationalization of the ÖNWB in 1909, the machines were referred to as series 11 by the kkStB  . This series came closed to the Czech State Railways (ČSD) after the First World War , which classified it as series  354.4 and did not retire the last machines until 1949. During the Second World War , the machines carried the DR numbers 38 4201-4204 (XIVa) and 38 4301-4319 (XIVb).

The BEB machines also came to ČSD as series 354.4 with the numbers 354.425–447, together with four 2'C-t2 machines (steam dryers) of a similar design. 12 locomotives of the older deliveries (BEB VIII 51-69, ČSD 354.425-443) received the DR numbers 38 4205-4216 and all four locomotives of the last delivery from 1913/14 (BEB VIII 70-73, ČSD 354.444-447) DR numbers 38 4401-4404. The ATE locomotives were given the series designation 344.5 and the numbers 344.501–504 at the ČSD .

BEB VIII No. 67 later ČSD 354.441 and DR 38 4214

Other locomotives under this designation

Before series 11 was occupied by ÖNWB locomotives, the numbers 11.01-06 were already occupied for machines of the Vorarlberger Bahn and numbers 11.11-22 by series  I of the Galician Carl Ludwig-Bahn . The 11.01–06 were changed to 23 .04–09 in 1891 .
