The kkStB 171 were freight train - steam locomotives of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB), which originally came from the kk priv. Österreichische Nordwestbahn (ÖNWB) and from the kk priv. Lemberg-Chernivtsi-Jassy-Eisenbahn (LCJE).

Based on the ÖNWB VI series  , the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik (Sigl) built 20 locomotives in 1873 and the Floridsdorf locomotive factory in 1874 14 locomotives of type D. They were classified as series  VIIa and VIIb at the ÖNWB. The rotating plate was arched over the wheels.

At the beginning of the 1880s there was again a need for freight locomotives. The Esslingen machine factory built 10 pieces in 1882 , the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik and the Floridsdorf locomotive factory in 1883 each built another 5 pieces, which were classified as series  VIIc , VIId and VIIe .

The locomotives were mostly used in Iglau , Josefstadt and Deutschbrod .

After the nationalization, the kkStB classified the locomotives discussed here as class  171 . They were given the numbers 171.01-20 (VIIa) and 171.29-62 (VIIb, c, d, e).

After the First World War , the 171.53 came to PKP , which it soon retired without giving it its own number. The remaining machines came to ČSD , where they formed the 411.0 series  . Some of the locomotives came from the ČSD to MÁV , which they classified as class  459.1 .

ČSD did not retire the 411.0 series until the 1960s. The locomotive 411.019 (formerly ÖNWB VIIa 340 CONRAD VORLAUF ) remained in the possession of the National Technical Museum in Prague . In the meantime stored as a loan in the Jaroměř Railway Museum , work began there. Thanks to financial resources from an EU funding program, the locomotive is now to be completed in the care of the NTM by 2021. Because of various technical problems - today's regulations require, among other things, a compressed air brake for the locomotive and train - the locomotive should initially only be put in an exhibition condition.

The Floridsdorf locomotive factory delivered eight freight steam locomotives to the Lemberg-Czernowitz-Jassy-Eisenbahn (LCJE) from 1876 to 1878 , identical in construction to the ones bought by the ÖNWB in 1874 . The LCJE classified them as row  IVf .

When the Lemberg-Chernivtsi-Jassy Railway was nationalized in 1889, the locomotives of the IVf series were given the numbers 171.21–28 by the kkStB .
