Červená hora ( Red Mountain ) is a mountain in the Kepernik Mountains, the north-western part of the Jeseníky Mountains . Its peak rises five kilometers southwest of the municipality of Bělá pod Pradědem above the deeply cut valleys of the Bělá , Černý potok, Červenohorský potok , Divoká Desná and Hučivá Desná up to a height of 1333 mnm

Geology and conservation

The mountain consists of mica slate and gneiss . The summit area is above the tree line, the treeless area covers 56.4 hectares. The slopes below the summit are overgrown with spruce forest. On the eastern slope are the remains of a natural mixed mountain forest, which is under state protection as a nature reserve Sněžná kotlina . The steep mountainside was in the Pleistocene with a Firngletscher covered the one Kar left something. Large amounts of snow accumulate on the slope and remain there until May or June. Occasionally there are also avalanches . The movement of the snow masses affects the vegetation cover and affects the vegetation. The plants there include, for example, spotted gentian , alpine bear moss , wrinkled monkshood and hermaphrodite crowberry and many ferns . The reserve is 104.34 hectares and ranges from 980 to 1320 mnm It is not open to the public.

Infrastructure and sights

At the western foot of the mountain, the road runs, between the towns of Jeseník and Šumperk , in 1013 meters the pass Červenohorské saddle ( Red Mountain Saddle crosses). There is a ski area with four slopes and several lifts.

On the western slope at 1280 m above sea level there is a spring called Vřesová studánka ( Heidebrünnl ), which was already known in the 15th century. According to legend, an almost blind forester regained his eyesight when he washed his eyes with the water. A stone chapel stands above the spring, replacing the previous building that burned down on May 30, 1946. A mining hut on Heidebrünnl was demolished in 1988. Marked hiking trails lead from the Roterbergsattel to the spring, to the summit and further to the neighboring peaks of Keprník and Šerák .
