Đuro Gašparović
Đuro Gašparović (born June 20, 1951 in Golubinci , SR Serbia , Yugoslavia ) has been bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese of Syrmia since 2008 .
Life
Đuro Gašparović was born in the local parish of Golubinci in Syrmia . He attended elementary and middle school there. Later he attended high schools in Zagreb and Đakovo, where he obtained his Abitur . Subsequently, he studied from 1972 to 1977 Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 29 June 1977, the sacrament of Holy Orders . His first chaplaincy was for one year in Ruma in Syrmia, from 1978 to 1979 Irig . In 1979 he continued his studies in Rome and graduated with a master's degree in liturgical studies from the Anselmianum papal faculty. In addition, Đuro Gašparović obtained a diploma in canon law and private law . In 1980 he was appointed vice rector of the Roman titular church of San Girolamo dei Croati . In 1992 he also became a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .
On July 5, 1996, the feast day of the Slav apostles Cyril and Method , Pope John Paul II appointed Đuro Gašparović titular bishop of Mattiana and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Đakovo and Syrmia . The episcopal ordination received his Franjo Cardinal Kuharic , the Archbishop of Zagreb , on October 5, 1996; Co- consecrators were Ćiril Kos , the bishop of Đakovo and Syrmia, and Marin Srakić , coadjutor bishop of Đakovo and Syrmia.
Gašparović was born on June 18, 2008 BY Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Syrmia.
