İbrahim Kalın

İbrahim Kalın (born September 15, 1971 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish Islamic theologian , historian of the history of Islamic philosophy and spokesman and advisor to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . Kalin is married and has three children.

Academic work

He received his BA from the University of Istanbul , his master's degree from the International Islamic University in Malaysia , and his Ph. D. from George Washington University in Washington, DC Kalin is a fellow of Prince al-Walid-bin Valley Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding , Georgetown University in Washington, DC , the oldest Roman Catholic, Jesuit- led university in the United States. He taught at the Jesuit College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts .

2007 was one of the signatories of the open letter A common word between us and you to the "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (English Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... ). The 2009 volume of The 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World was edited by Kalin with John L. Esposito . He counted in 2011 to members of the Muslim delegation at the second Catholic-Muslim Forum of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought (Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought). In 2012, he was included in the list of 500 Most Influential Muslims by the Prince al-Walid-bin-Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center of Jordan . He is one of the Senior Fellows of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought and was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).

Kalın was the founder and from 2005 to 2009 director of the government-affiliated conservative think tank SETA (Foundation for Politics, Economy and Social Research) in Ankara, with a branch in Washington, DC being opened in 2009 .

His work as an academic focused on the history of Islamic philosophy, Turkish foreign policy and the relationship between Islam and the West.

Political offices

In May 2009, Kalın Ahmet Davutoğlu took over the post of chief foreign policy advisor to then Prime Minister Erdoğan. After Erdoğan became president, he appointed Kalın to the post of deputy general secretary of the presidential office and its spokesman.
